This is the thing. If you want something don’t be afraid to go
get it.
I’ve always been a big believer in dreaming big. I try not
to put limits on the things that I want to try. I don’t think anybody should.
Yet, we live in a world where people are constantly telling us what we can and
can’t do. And the problem is that we listen to them.
I think the issue is that we get so caught up in the “what-ifs”
and we scare ourselves out of trying something new. It’s our nature to want to
feel comfortable and secure in what we are doing. But because of that we often
times miss out on amazing opportunities.
My two months so far in the advertising industry has taught me
a few things:
- Sooner or later you are going to fail at something
- Some of the greatest ideas come from a series of rejections
- Even the highest level executive doesn’t know everything
- If you don’t keep pushing yourself to learn new things you’re never going to advance
- New challenges can be very stressful, but they can also be very rewarding
I’ll be honest with you and say that there are a lot of days
in which I have absolutely no idea what I am doing. I’ve failed at a lot of
things on my first attempt. But that’s part of the learning process and because
of those failures I have learned so many important things. It’s made me a
better all around person. It’s also kept me quite humble in the process which
is always a good thing.
I’ve learned the importance of immersing myself in
everything I can possible be a part of. I’m on my way to becoming an SEO guru,
I’ve lined up and will be conducting an interview with a big NYC fashion
designer, I will be filming videos for accessories for one of our clients, and today I was
assigned as the sole project manager for a new client. And I’ve only been
working for two months. I think that is proof right there that there shouldn’t
be limits on what we think we can do. It’s
proof that you shouldn’t be afraid to dive into things and learn as much as you
can. The worst thing that could possibly happen is that it doesn’t work out.
Then you move onto your next dream. So don’t let anyone tell you what your future
is going to look like. Create it for yourself. Simple as that.
